Life often settles into a series of predictable routines that can go on for weeks or months with little change or interruption. While there are benefits of stability and order, this can lead to the formation of a haze in one's life which tends to cloud and mute the senses. Even when life is good, this haze can permeate some days, making a 10 mile evening run around Chipman Hill feel more like a chore, and a dinner of 8 ravioli altogether unsatisfying.
For me, time away with family helps to clear the haze and provides rejuvenation. On Cape Cod this summer we spent time going to the beach, bicycling, walking through town, eating meals together, and playing croquet. One moment we sat on the porch visiting and the next we had a home run derby. It was relaxing and fun. It was a great time to reconnect with everyone in a beautiful setting. A vacation in the truest sense.
