The calendar says it's May so it must be time for another California trip! It's always so much fun to get together with the California crew and this was no exception. And this time around, there's another great reason to be heading West- it's my niece's first birthday! None of us probably remember our first birthdays, but there are a lot of new birthday experiences to absorb - the singing, the presents, the cake, etc. Toys and stuffed animals are definitely more fun than new clothes. And while I was originally a little concerned that we'd miss out on a rich, chocolatey, frosting-coated confection, the homemade 'healthy' cake that c made turned out to be delicious!
It was a great weekend, complete with great playing and visiting, good hikes in the still-green foothills, a trip to Sonoma, another Mt. Diablo ascent, and I even managed to squeeze in the
Sequoia 30K trail race organized by Pacific Coast Trail Runs on Mother's Day morning! I had been feeling a little under the weather when I arrived, but running through the redwood and eucalyptus groves cured my ills and helped me get my groove on! It amazes me how much my niece enjoys riding in the backpack for hours on end and I really couldn't choose a better, more happy, training partner!
