Life gets busy and it's always good to take some time to recharge the battery. It's been a few months since I last visited my parents in Southern New England and it was great to be there again for an Easter weekend visit.
Among the weekend activities we enjoyed a walk around Walden Pond, including a visit to Fairhaven Bay on the Sudbury River. I wore my GPS watch to record the route, however, since Garmin ditched Google Maps for Bing Maps instead, there is no means to view tracks overlain on a terrain map on the Garmin Explore website, which is a major deficiency in their service.
It was recommended to me to try the website Every Trail which allows the upload of 'GPX' files and provides a view of the track using Google Maps, just like Garmin Explore used to offer. Here is an example from our hike at Walden Pond: Walden Pond Loop
I'm not one to covet all manner of electronic gadgetry, but I'm waiting for the day when the features of a GPS watch and a SPOT locator beacon are combined in a svelte Suunto-sized watch.
